Taggle is a well known Aussie tech success story, delivering innovative digital metering solutions for over a decade, and now, we’re excited to bring that expertise to New Zealand.

With more than 350,000 digital meters deployed and the trust of 75 councils and water utilities across Australia, Taggle are the market leader and we look forward to supporting New Zealand communities in enhancing water management and advancing sustainability objectives.

Who is Taggle?

Taggle is Australia’s leading ecosystem for Digital Water Metering and Digital Water Management. With 14 years of domain expertise, Taggle offers an end-to-end service of hardware, software, networks, installation and ongoing management to support water conservation.

Led by Chief Executive Officer David Peters, Taggle is on a mission to help councils, utilities, and communities reduce water waste. “We are driven by saving water through increasing consumer awareness, detecting leaks and reducing non-revenue water, for a sustainable future.”

Why New Zealand

“Taggle has focused on solving Australia’s water challenges, but when a New Zealand water authority called across the Tasman, inviting us to bring our knowledge and technology to Aotearoa, we jumped at the opportunity,” Peters shared.

“New Zealand presents unique challenges, and we’re eager to learn and adapt. Our team is excited to work hand-in-hand with local communities to improve water security and build a sustainable future.”

Why Digital Metering Matters

Digital meters offer more than just data, they empower action. From leak detection to improved customer engagement, the benefits are clear. “Councils and water utilities often lose 30 – 40% of treated water due to leaks, whether within the network or on private properties,” said Peters.

Taggle’s meter data management platform, Aqualus Water, includes tools to identify, quantify, and notify customers about leaks. “While leaks are a key priority, we also recognise that every utility is different. We help tailor business cases to meet specific goals, whether it’s delaying the need for a new treatment plant, improving workplace safety, or ensuring accurate billing.”

What Taggle offer

Taggle delivers a truly end-to-end solution. From hardware and software to networks and installation, we handle it all.

“Our clients value us coordinating it all,” Peters explained. “If something goes wrong at any stage, we’re accountable. We offer choices at every step and ensure seamless integration with other devices or systems. Our open, interoperable ecosystem means customers can take advantage of different technologies and systems they wish to use.”

Putting Data in the Hands of the Community

Taggle’s customer portal gives property owners, tenants, and agents direct access to their water usage data. Users can receive leak alerts and high-consumption notifications via SMS or email, and subscribe to weekly or monthly email reports that include clear visual summaries highlighting any unusual water use.

“This set-and-forget system gives people the insights they need without requiring constant log-ins,” said Peters. “With leaks alerts leaks can be quickly identified and fixed saving water and money. Leaks have been identified in the thousands of litres per hour that were underground and unknown, they wouldn’t have been found for months about without a digital meter potentially causing significant property damage on top of water losses.”

Local Investment, Local Partnerships, Local Impact

Taggle is committed to building local relationships and partnerships in New Zealand. We have developed a strong partnership with Spark for NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) connectivity. “Spark has the largest dedicated team of IoT specialists in New Zealand, and the widest NB-IoT network coverage in New Zealand,” said Peters. “This allows us roll out meters quickly and at scale, using existing infrastructure.”

We have also connected with local partners with extensive water industry experience like Citycare Water and Fulton Hogan, and plan to foster these relationships and their local engineering and installation expertise.

Finally, we are investing in New Zealand and hiring of our local team is underway, so watch this space.

Conclusion: A Trans-Tasman Opportunity

Australia and New Zealand share many complementary strengths, and Taggle is thrilled to extend its expertise across the Tasman. With a focus on collaboration, sustainability, and community impact, this marks a new chapter in water management for Aotearoa.
